Talk about what you want to change

Alcohol use disorder is a medical condition that can involve difficulty controlling drinking despite harmful effects. You do not need to choose a label for yourself before discussing alcohol with a physician.

An evaluation considers your drinking pattern, health, medications, previous withdrawal or treatment, and goals. This helps guide a discussion about treatment options and the appropriate setting for care.

Treatment can take more than one form

Care planning may include medication options, counseling, recovery supports, and follow-up. The recommendations depend on your medical needs and preferences.

Your physician can explain which options fit your situation, discuss questions about treatment, and help identify when in-person evaluation or more intensive medical care is needed.

Alcohol withdrawal needs medical attention

Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous. If you may be physically dependent on alcohol, seek medical guidance before stopping suddenly. A future video appointment is not a substitute for urgent withdrawal assessment.

For a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. The website does not arrange emergency detoxification or hospital admission.

Addiction Medicine expertise in Las Vegas

SNAP is an equal partnership led by Maureen Strohm, MD, DFASAM, FAAFP, and Brian Kaszuba, MD, FASAM. Our physicians see hospitalized patients at Southern Hills Hospital & Medical Center for Addiction Medicine consultations coordinated through the hospital team.
